about

I love albums. I have some favorite albums that I listen to from beginning to end. Until this one, I don't think I had ever made an album that I felt that way about. That's what I set out to do with this album. It is meant to be played from beginning to end, as many of the tracks fade into each other and into noisy, chaotic segues.

Many of these tracks were conceived in the winter of 2022, with a handful dating back 1, 2, and 8 years. The ones that were older hadn't felt "done" for one reason or another, so they were never released. I think much of that feeling came from their origins as being loop-based. Most of the music I've released as Sticky People has come from loops. Sometimes loops are created together in a single session. Sometimes a loop is created and then gets used for years in live sets until it finds a home with other loops that compliment it. That is my favorite part of djing. Being surprised at how well two disparate musical ideas can come together to create something better than either separately. Several of those moments are present on this album.

But one thing I really tried to do with this album was to break free of the loop-based structure that comes with a lot of electronic music. Especially my own. Some of that came from creating loops of different lengths and superimposing them on each other to create unexpected rhythms. Some of it came from purposefully warping and affecting tracks to the point where they were pretty much broken. But much of it came from just sitting down and playing what I thought sounded best. I tried not to think about it too hard. I tried to record the sounds as close to the finished product as I could, so that I wouldn't spend forever editing and polishing. Once a part was recorded, it was part of the song. There are mistakes. There are wrong notes. There are wonky rhythms. But I wanted to create something that felt more alive. I hope that is what comes across with this album.

I'm not going to ask anyone to pay for it. I just hope you enjoy it. Thank you!
